I'm a little disappointed in my shots I felt like I was talking more than shooting.
I love is event But, the only constructive criticism I can give is that I think the layout of the show area was packed and unorganized. If the bug's where all in the same area judging would be much more easy to do. Other than that I had an awesome time and I'll be there next year again for sure. Thanks guys  :D

As the person that parked the majority of the show cars I agree that it would be nice to separate out the classes but without even more volunteers I do not think this is possible.  The Volksters had probably a record number of club members volunteering but even with those numbers we were stretched.  Next year should be better as many of the parking volunteers (including me) were doing this for the first time.  It is sorta like trial by fire;-)  Thanks for you input and I am sure we will consider it for next year depending on resources available.  Nice pics!!!

Yes, the show area could be organized a bit better.  With the continued growth of this show, it is getting more difficult to manage where to park all of the cars let alone group them according to class.  This will be a topic of discussion as we plan for next year's show.  The guys that parked the show deserve alot of credit... they are on the front lines of the most difficult job at the show.

If we can convince the track owner to have only show, swap or racers in the one area and general parking way out back  I think it would have been easier. I was near the gate most of the day I and did hear people complain about not being able to park near the show cars... I say if they pay the extra $5 go for it others everyone heads straight back for the entrance.

My two cents and my penny back is full and over flowing  :D

I know the people parking or directing cars cough some crap for having to direct people to areas they didn't like but it was full fast. Kind tells me things are going good. Can't believe we ran out of show space and had to double up.

This was a good event to work. Even though at times we were short people I think every one was able to see some of the show or race. If not I apologize now. We tried to make sure we had back up but I know a few people did wait a while for breaks.

Glen, I was definitely not complaining about the workload as I was impressed how the Volksters did.  If we have a post-mortem meeting I have some suggestions to help make it even better next year.  I am definitely proud to be a Volkster after sat.  I think with all those of us that have got a 1st Bug Run under our belt that we will be much more efficient next year.  I, myself, take most of the responsibility for the chaotic parking that happened in the show area as I had no idea how fast and often these cars would come in. I want to personally thank all those that responded to my cries for help rather quickly.  I also want to mention that my 13 year old son, Kaleb, parked water-cooled mostly on his own and that I am very proud of him:-)  He made his daddy proud!!!!
May I be the first one to say "Volksters you should be patting yourselves on the back for the great jobs that you did as a team".  I have worked on many corporate teams in the past and this team can measure up with any of them.  One more shout out to those that showed up for the later shifts on time so most everyone was able to take a break and take the show in.
As a regular member I want to say thanks to our officers for putting such a long day in.

Randy, I can say with absolute certainity that the show car parking would have been chaotic regardless of who was doing it.  You were not responsible for how it turned out... it just happens.  You and your son did a great job handling the situation (much better than I did, but that's another story).

I didn't stay overnight on Friday, but I am interested to know if there was any type of meeting prior to the gates opening on Saturday.  A good pre-show meeting between the clubs and the track owner could have kept most of the problems from happening in the first place.

The biggest problem I saw with the parking was the length of time it took to get that yellow Beetle unloaded and set-up and the impact it had to traffic in the area.  There was also an issue (which was resolved to everyone's satisfaction) with a club wanting to park together.

Traffic control was a nightmare!  There were too many "general admission" vehicles parking in the drag and swap areas.

Thanks Duane, I think that the experience we all gained will help in the future.  Personally, I think Todd ended up very overloaded trying to get all of us newbies in our places and started in the morning.  He met with the track guy the night before and walked us all through it but in the morning I know I was still confused on some details of how to do this. I am looking forward to having a postmortem to discuss our learnings and ideas. As far as the large group that parked together I do not think the main problem was them but another group.  I would like to discuss this in person though.
Overall, I would say this was a great effort by our team.

I have to agree with the seperate parking. Far too often I had people asking if they can drop off parts and other stuff and I'd say that 90% of those cars never came back. So I havent a clue where they parked.

The reality is, we need more people along the road headed in. If you didnt have a yellow or orange tag then you were not allowed to park except in general admission.

The event is getting very large and seems to be growing each year. Honestly, we need to stop parking general admission parking next to the show cars. If they want to pay the extra $5 to 'enter as show' then great.

I had to feild off some beligerent people and one guy even told me he was "gonna find me"... Yay. All in all though, it was a great day!

Todd or Mark, could we create a separate forum so that volunteer Volksters can chat about experiences?  I think this conversation is needed but in a more private forum.
