The worst performance mod is whatever you're limited to because you convinced yourself (or others) that anything bigger or faster was too extreme for a street car.

It was ME!!!

I have seen and heard so much about these "water cooled" cars that I thought I might build one of my own.  I don't have a ton of money to throw away on this pipe dream so I am starting with the shifter.  Just a few more parts and I'll be rippin' around town (with a few WC parts in the trunk of my Beetle).

It was only "outside" because I can be computer illiterate at times and had difficulty posting my interest.  So I tried an old fashion style of communication...

I called CatBox.

Ok here is a piece of advice for those recently converted to the darkside *Ahem cough President of the club cough ahem*

When installing a short shift on a Bunny or GTi

DO NOT use the shortest throw!!! You'll be sooooooooooorry...Middle position ( I belive 40%) is peeeeeeerfect.

Secondly if it did not come with the counter weight, spend the $40 and go get one. A short shift IS GREAT! A short shift that is hard to shift sucks ballz.

Also it may, or may not make your main rod thingy for the Trans be out of sink. You will know right away. Usally when you shift from first to second it wil grind just a bit. If this happens DO NOT FEAR...Just train yourself to pause for a split second between the shift and all will be right with the world.

Scew it!! I think I am going to  U-Pull-It and buying a radiator from an early VW shoot some foam on it, put it in my trunk and act like I am part of the elite water cooled gang..........that way when we do go on a cruise, I can have a drink from my new water cooler any time I want, and I too can be on that elite dark side!
