Hey all, I got my nice spanking-new 1968cc from Mike at DIP Monday!   8)

It is coming together, almost ready to stuff in, with full guages and all, it is going to be SO SWEET!

Minor glitch though:  since it is a mild stroker, it is now wider, and I can't get my sweet header to line up!  I can't afford a replacement, and this one is ceramic, so any advice or help would be appreciated!

All you can do is cut it and have a spacer welded in.  You could rattle-can the welded area with the consumer ceramic coating to hide the ugly.  It will still work and probably won't be that noticable.

Didn't nave to cut it after all!  Since it was only about 1/4 in wider, I was able to get the header on, then match up the heater boxes.  Mike at DIP says the heat once I run it will take the bending stress off...

way cool it looks good.
The worst performance mod is whatever you're limited to because you convinced yourself (or others) that anything bigger or faster was too extreme for a street car.

OK, update... it is 11:45 am, the motor is bolted in, and I have most of my wiring (for all of my new guages) hooked up.  Oil lines are hooked up,
now I am off to DIP for new plug wires, found a couple of cracks.  I hope to get it running today!

OK, so it is in, wired, plumbed, and wild!  I started it up this afternoon, and ran it for 20 minutes at 2k rpm, like Mike said to do...  No problems, except for a too-tight fan belt!  This thing is gonna be a beast!

Went for a test drive, about 25minutes or so.  Took it easy.  Ran great, except makes a bit of a rattly noise after it gets fully warmed up if below 3k rpm.  Valves?  Fuel?  Timing?  not sure, need help!  Oil temp got up to the 220-230 range on freeway, oil pressure started at 60psi cold, dropped to about 20 when hot, not unusual for one of these...

dang oil light came on as I pulled up my driveway (steep).  I will check oil level when it cools down.

Any advice would be appreciated!

Do you have a Gene Berg oil temperature reading dip stick? (It triggers the oil light when it gets too hot)  I had an engine once with a low oil pressure problem when hot.  It turned out to be a pourly machined front main bearing.  When it heated up the case would expand beyond the "crush" of the bearing and create an internal oil leak.  That is a worse case scenario.

I've never taken a spin in any other bug then my own... being the 1300 66'. I'm trying to find a new motor (1776) and tranny to drop in it to give it some life!!! muhhahaha. Are you going to the Bug-in? if so I would like a ride in your bug to get the feel of what a good motor can do.  how much of a difference do you think I'll be able to notice after I drop a 1776 into my bug. Is the difference going to be very noticible, from the 13 to the 17?

Cheers!!

CJ, you could ride to the bug-in with me if you want.  You will notice a huge difference if you put in the 1776...  If you had a 1600 it would not be too huge, but going from 40 to 75 or so horses will be SWEET!

I disagree i've driven my budies 69 with a 1300 with a single weber. and i have a 1500 there is a big differance from his 40 horse vs my 53 horse stock. my girl friend has a 1600 dp and i've raced her and she has a baja and she can still pull away from me with ease. she tops out faster but takes me in the short run. but just between the 1300 to the 1500 then to her 1600 i see a huge differance. so a 1776 should be awsome.
