68 and newer

Why? Plastic dash. Bigger tail lights. Outside fill gas tank.  Big bumpers.

67 and older - generally the accepted transition point between early and late model Beetles (67 still considered early).  You can show up at a vintage show in a 67 and be accepted.

I think a full on f-- c----- is 1968, for same reasons,

BUT, I also think 1967 is a confused year because of the headlights...
so I will throw them in because they are trying to look like a f-- c----- :)

BUT J., I do also agree with you on the 1964 cutoff reason, ...  (because of the bigger windows)

at least it's obvious when Type 3's became "f-- c-----s" :)

That doesn't make any sence... If it's cause of window size all type threes are f-- c-----s...

'67 is still swing axle, one year only front fenders (headlights are the only thing the same as a '68.. The fender itself is different... Early bumpers, early dash, early hood, early interior, one year door handles, one year only deck lid and overriders, one year real apron, single port motor, etc... The only thing that resembles the 68 is the headlight itself and the transaxle... Yet '67 trans is highly sought after.... Saying that a f-- c----- is based on window size is like saying that a 58 is a f-- c----- (not oval or split but a lot of the same parts as a 57....

There is a lot of ignorance going around on the samba and the Subreality VW forums that has tainted our beloved hobbie..... It has changed so much for the bad...

So, what type 3's are f-- c-----s? And why?
Who knew that a cheap little car designed for the masses at the whim of an evil dictator could be so very cool more than 6 decades later?

In my years of being into the little cars, I've learned that they "R" all created equal... Fattys ride and drive great, fatty type threes ride and drive even better, even fatter type 4s outride and drive them all... The same goes with bus's...

I have seen some outstanding fatties that people have put a lot of loving into. Most of them have been not my taste at all but some have really caught my eye... I say who cares as long as the person that owns it is happy.... Mark Herbert had him a superbeatle and drive it all over th place... If he can do it, I sure can.... (if you don't know who mark Herbert is then she on you)...

Then again I have never been able to get over a speed bump in any of the sum 20+ ACVW I have owned.

I did slammed back in the 80s but moved on to enjoying the car more... It's hard enough having more Horse power than the car is really capable of handling but it still fun to drive...

Although i love the look of older bugs, I also love my f-- c-----! The ride in a f-- c----- vs. a standard is night and day, I would take my super beetle over a early bug any day for a daily driver! She handles great and can actually turn, Speed bumps and bumps in the road mean nothing. I also own a standard and switching between the two has made me appreciate the SB So much. Don't get me wrong i would love a early 60's or 50's but for a daily driver the SB wins hands down!

Some of us don't care. I never had any intention of keeping my T1 stock so what difference does it make?  :dontknow:

If you are going to keep it stock and restore it I can understand wanting a certain year for it's attributes. If you are going to slam it, change lights and a bunch of other stuff what difference does it make? How many of you "Non-f-- c-----" guys are running the engine that is correct for your year? Still running a gen or changed that too?

It's all about having fun with your car. At least we aren't riding late 80s Mustangs.

'74 Std. A work in progress. :)

My windows aren't fogged up, it's just a really good UV filter......

  • What?
True fatties started with the 68 model. I much prefer the look of the 64 and down models, but I do still like the 65 thru 67 ( have owned 3 67s, a 65, and a 66.

Garry, you have been in the hobby long enough to know what he means by larger windows. If you don't then shame on you.

As far as supers go, I don't care if the ride is as soft as riding in a maybach. I wouldn't own one. Trust me, if you lowered you super to where J has his cars it would ride like crap too!!! I know this because I have had cars with strut suspension that were on the ground. All extreme lowered stuff will ride bad. As I have said before, we cannot all have the cool cars. So you f-- c----- lovers  need to buy the ugly ones.... :flamethrower: :flamethrower:

Peter to beat you to the punch we don't care if you drive yours all the time. It is still a super. VW had to call them super so people would buy them. Otherwise most would have gone to the Japanese cars of the time. The thought of have a "super" car kept them in the fold. Then they would kick themselves for the length of ownership for being fooled!!

Yah, I know all about the windows... I have had plenty early cars... The 67 is the one that has stuck with me... Yah I do like early cars... I sold my 63 when I left Oregon.... It was cool but I like '67s.... I'll choose a ball joint car over link pin any day... Or I'd put an early body on a ball joint pan.... Either way, what's the difference... When I find me a nice split body I will prolly build me another early car to put on one of my restored pans, but the '67 will still be with me...

As far s Fatties go, they are not my cup of tea... If I had to choose between a fatty And a early heap of junk slammed to the dirt that looked like trash, I'd drive the fatty... I'm an adult Now....
