Will start tearing apart my short block tomorrow... I know there is no clearancing needed on 74's, how about on 76 stroke?
Who knew that a cheap little car designed for the masses at the whim of an evil dictator could be so very cool more than 6 decades later?

OK you guys, how much work is required to clearance for a 76mm crank?  I know you don't need to do any for a 74mm stroke.

Now about rods:  can a 74 or 76mm motor use stock rods?  If not, what length rods are needed?

Evil corruption strikes again!

74mm crank can use stock rods with no clearancing.  I used stock rods with my 2007 (78mm stroke) build but went with stroker pistons and had to do some clearancing.  I can't speak to the needs for a 76mm set up but I am sure you would have to do some clearancing.  The overall additional length from the 74mm to the 76mm crank is 1mm and could easily be compensated by additional barrell shims and/or copper head shims.

CB's Unitech rods make up to a 78 crank almost a drop in.

Best of all the are around $90 a set.  No longer do you have to re-use the stock rods.

Going to go with CB 76mm crank and Unitech rods. Not sure if I need stroker pistons or stock with barrel spacers...

Well Mark, you can help me out more if you want!  Can you help me with any clearancing needed? Also I need to pull the gears from the crank if I could get your help with that.

Just tore the short block down.  Will pull the rods off the crank later, as I have brand new bearings on those rods I want to re-use.

May take me a while longer than I thought to build this motor, as the better half is giving me major poop over spending the OVERTIME money I earned SPECIFICALLY for this project... wouldn't pick up 4 night shifts in one pay period for nothing else!   :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down: :2down:

Just do it again and this time put a disclaimer on the ticket.

I have done side jobs that are for anything and side jobs that are for me....
