Going to keep this brief for now, but we are buying a 77 VW Camper Bus this week.  It is not a "Westy", but a conversion done by a company in Vancouver back in the day.  The current owner purchased it with her mom in 79.  It has a little over 55k miles, all original paint and interior.  It has been parked in the garage most of its life.  All miles were "camping" trips and it was driven to Alaska and back at some point.  More details later and I plan to drive it to the meeting next week.

It is not a Riviera is it? Those were out of Beaverton though. They were done up in that style as well.

The conversion was done in Vancouver from what I understand.  The owner indicated that she might have the original bill of sale.  This one "pops up" the same as the Rivieras - parallel (like a pop-up tent trailer) - instead of like the Westies in which they pop-up at an angle.

We going to finish up the financial side of things on Wednesday.  I'm still trying to figure out if it is going to fit in my garage.  It looks like it might clear the top of the door frame by an inch or two.  However I do have a plan to make the garage door frame as much as 4 inches taller if needed.

That's dedication to Volkswagen! ... modifying your house to get your VW to fit!

Don't raise the roof, lower the floor.
Just rip-out your concrete floor and dig it down a couple more inches :)

All good ideas - except chopping the roof.  :2down:

I measured the height of a camper bus at Chuck's yesterday.... I think we are good to go and may not need any modifications to the garage door.  :headbang:

It is officially in our possession now and what an incredible bus it is.

Turns out it is a Riviera that was done by Automotive Services Inc.  in Vancouver.

I have all of the original owner manuals for all of the equipment (including the AM/FM radio).

The funniest thing I found in the pile of papers was a letter from VWoA informing the original owner of a recall on the swing lever shaft of the steering system.   It was dated February 16th, 1978. I wonder if the recall repair was actually performed?
