I have decided to sell my Jetta project to help fund my bug motor. I really don't want too. But reality says I have too... Curse you reality!  :banghead:

Here is my ad copied from CL. I would be willing to take $500 from a club member.

Here is ad:

First and foremost... The 17" WHEELS are not included with the car. I'm hanging on to those for my bug. So you will need to bring two of your own wheels. Also note that the car will have to be towed home on a dolly or trailer for reasons listed below.

Also note that if it doesn't sell in the first try. I will put in the time and effort to trouble shoot the corrosion or connection problem and I will not take less then $1,000 for it.

This is a one year only car and is some what rare. Only one I have seen in person. I picked this car up about 8 months ago in a trade of cars with someone else. Car ran when I got it. I would start it up once a month to keep battery charged and car in running order. And then the rains came. The front windshield leaked horribly. A lot of water has leaked down onto the fuse panel. Last time I started the car, it would only run for a few seconds each start. And now the battery has died. It should run again by taking the time to clean up the corroded connections at the fuse panel.

When I got the car, the front driver side tire looked off and it felt like the bushings in the front end were shot. I have since replaced with new:
Poly front end bushings
Inner and out tie rod ends
Ball joints
Strut bushings
Timing belt and tensioner

I also have all new master cylinder and brake shoes/pads that I bought that will be included in the deal.

So I have roughly $225 in new parts on or included with the car already. Also have used mk2 H&R drop springs in the front. I want to say the are 1.5" drop springs. Also have some for the rear but not installed.

After doing all of that work the tire still looked off. Upon further inspection I found out the the front control arm fork is bend slightly out on the driver side. It is a common thing on mk1 Vw's front end what I have been reading and told. Car will need to be put on a frame rack or use a come-a-long to pull the one side back over. Then you have to put in a lower stress bar is the way to prevent this from happening again.

Car does have a few dings and dents but nothing major that I can see. Does have some surface rust here and there.

Only reason I am selling is because my bug project has taken priority over the Jetta. So I might be interested in a trade of a running 1835cc or larger vw bug motor.

Other then that, I have a clean title in my hand for the first person to put good cash in my hand or drops off the motor I'm looking for. I may entertain cash + bug motor parts offers. No low ballers and if ad is still up, I have the car.

Here is a few more pics:

I forgot I had two snowflakes in my shed with new tires that I can let go with the Jetta. So you would only need two more or two other wheels to drag it home.

I have not had a chance to tinker on it. I would be willing to go $300 to a club member before I post it for $400 on CL.

So I have went out and charged the battery today. I cleaned up a few connections. It turns over now. But I think the relay for the fuel pump got wet and is no longer functioning. Or there is more corroded connections to track down. I will check the fuel pump as well.

I will probably buy a relay at DIP next time I stop in and go from there. I may have it running again in no time. Price will go up of course  :cheers2:

So I went and found the fuel pump relay and pulled it out of the car for a closer inspection. I know that the pump has not been working which is why it will not start currently. I pulled apart the relay and found this gem inside...

So I'm going to replace this first before going any further. But I'm willing to bet that this may solve my problem.

Ok, I borrowed a fuel pump relay from someone and popped it into my fuse panel. Car started right up. Battery is still holding a charge just fine. So all it needs to run is a relay.

It runs good though considering it has not been driven regularly in well over a year or two now. I guess I will get it ready to post on cl  :2up:

Yup. I think the interested party came to the conclusion that their eyes are bigger then their wallet right now. Same way I feel but I need to stay focused on getting a motor of my own for my Bug. If I have not sold it by next month when I get my bonus from work... I may just hang on to it longer.

I have been trying my hardest to not get attached to the Jetta... But it has taken a hold of me. But the more and more I look at it and sit in it I just love it.

I've had quite a hard time with acvw's so far. I've spent probably close to $1500 so far on my bug and I have NOTHING to show for it. I could have fixed up the Jetta quite nicely with that amount of money.

I know the Jetta has a good motor and transmission. The only two pressing issues I can think of is the front window seal and the tears in the uni-body. I think my money would be better spent fixing this first and put my bug on the back burner for awhile. I am going to get my head work done for my bug. I may wait another month or two to get my case done. If I even have a good case. The case I took up yesterday is no good to do a line more on as the area where the tool mounts to line bore the case got chewed up a bit. Luckily the case is in good shape and doesn't need to be line bored. But I should waste the money on all that machine work to only be able to use the case one more time. I was told to build a 1600 out of it and call it good. I only have one other case on hand. I looked it over now that I know what I'm looking for. It looks to be a good candidate. But I will find out for sure tomorrow.

But it looks like I am just going to keep my Jetta  :2up:
