...is also the only air-cooled VW in Lake County, Oregon.  Lol.  This is a look at the car when it still had 8 spokes on it circa 2004, when my stepdad and I did floor pan halves in it.  This is the day the car went in to his buddy's shop and we went nuts on it.
I have more pics of the car's current status, as the current phase of the build is pretty much the new 2017cc engine that's underway.

There isn't any thing wrong with 8 spokes and a different colored fender.

Eight spokes are long gone, it's back on stock steelies at the moment. four and a half inchers.  I actually have put off the cosmetic improvements to focus on more speed, as I'm currently working on a 2.0 liter engine.

Other pics of the rear apron replacement (keeping it detachable):

Thanks, guys!  Yeah, I'm excited.  The biggest engine (and best so far) I've had to date was a nice 1776 with Engle 100 cam, semi hemi heads, 1.25 rockers, kadrons and about 7.8:1 compression.  GREAT highway motor, and fun to drive around town, too!  This new 2.0 liter will probably corrupt me forever...he he.

Will try to get some more pics of the work done on the car to date, gotta dig up the CD they're on.  My stepdad and I did floorpans while a buddy of mine over in Medford installed a new rear package tray a few summers back.  The only rust this car has now is the surface rust on the body.  Great shape otherwise!

I officially have all the parts needed for the engine build, minus carb jets, but currently lack the time and space to work on it.  Weather's kind of started turning recently, too, unfortunately, down here in southern Oregon, at least east of the Cascades.  Gettin' chilly...lol.

mmm I just picked up a set of those carbs for my car, they just look fun.

I cannot wait as I have only driven my 1600 with bolt ons and it is fun, but soon I will have the joy of a built engine and fancy transmisson to go with it.

Fun stuff maynard.

I was very surprised (and pleased) to find that CB Performance has the best pricing on Dellorto jets.  $3 each versus the $5 per jet price that a bunch of profiteers on the Samba are charging.  Not sure how they can justify that crap unless they're also offering free jet swap out, which most private sellers generally don't.

So instead of $60 for jets, it's probably going to cost me closer to $36-40.

Of course they charge more for them over there, they have to put their mark up in the items to make anything.  They are just looking to charge the guy that doesnt look around for the good prices.

They have forgotten that CB introduced the to the VW market and still support them.  That just makes it all that much better for us who like them over the Weber carbs.

There's a guy in Redmond that supposedly specializes in Dellortos, rebuilding them, parts, yada yada yada... but then when I got back to him about the jets I needed, it turned into "I'm out, and won't have anything for 2 to 3 weeks."  Lol.  I'm in no hurry by any stretch, by I was kind of thinking to myself it was kind of weak.

Man. I had a 1968cc with dual webber 40's and it was a beast!
Who knew that a cheap little car designed for the masses at the whim of an evil dictator could be so very cool more than 6 decades later?

I bought my dells from a dude in Newberg. He has a grip of jets, and knows a ton about dells. I will see if I can get a contact number for him.
