Well... I no longer am a JbJetta  :2down: The Jetta has gone to another club member. At least this way I can still see it and help them do some wrenching on it. I had no space for the Jetta as I am in need of space to get a Vanagon for camping and such. I won't have a Vanagon until later this year though  :2down:

But out of the deal I have a (hopefully) running motor that will be in my bug tomorrow. Then I can return the motor that I have been borrowing from another member!

Also in the deal I picked up another complete motor that will need some parts changed out on it to make it a runner. All I need is a 82mm crank and I should be sitting on a 2276  :2up: In the mean time though... I may just finish building the 1835 that I have been working on and run it for a little while before stepping into the 2276.

And lastly, I am now the owner of a '65 Sunroof Bug. It will need a lot of help before it is on the road. I'm currently torn in either getting rid of it, or getting rid of my Bug to keep this one. I will go out tomorrow in the morning to get pics and look it over real well before I make my decision.

Ok. So after mulling it around in my head and flip flopping on which one I will keep. I think I will keep the '65. The biggest factor is that is has a clean title. My '66 doesn't. So for insurance purposes and stuff after I end up shoveling in a bunch of money into it... I can get full coverage and some piece of mind. The second part is that 75% of the Bugs I see on a day to day basis '66 and older, are all '66. And lastly... It has link pin front end vs the '66 is ball joint. The '65 came with a 5" narrowed beam... But I have a feeling I may not ever use it.

So here it is currently in my shop

Today I got the loaner motor out of my '66. I did this before realizing I'm missing a part for the clutch pressure plate, and that I cannot for the life of me find the bolts for the clutch pressure plate. That means I won't have the 1600 SP put into the '66 and running this weekend like I had hoped to do  :2down: So tomorrow I will just go through the carb that I have for it and get everything else that I can ready to go in. Then enjoy some Superbowl  :cheers2:

  • What?
Put that 5 inch beam in it. You will not regret the extra room in the wheel wells when it is lowered.

And get rid of that brown paint, or whatever that is. 6 cans of spray bomb should do the trick...

Yup! After I get it up and running and all of the electrical squared away, the brown will go away too. This is how it looked before it was going to be made into a Baja by the PO. The car I have is the very same car in this pic. I really like that color scheme and I think I will put it back to that after I get some rust repair in the pan done and some body work done.

I'm not a big fan of the narrowed beam look to be honest. If I need more room in the fenders-- I will just get wider fenders :2up: I can appreciate the slammed look on someone else's car. But not my own. I have a heavy foot and I don't want to have to drive slow or always have to be on the look out for raised man hole covers or pot holes. I don't fancy bouncing my beam or pan on the ground. But most importantly my ol' lady has CP. Getting into and out of of a slammed car is not something that is easy for her. That, and the ride quality is something she wouldn't favor as she can get headaches quite easily. Don't get me wrong... She loves a rough ride... Just not under those kinds of circumstances

I know it is a dumb question, but I have to ask anyways. Is it possible to tow a bug without a transmission in it? Specifically a swing axle?

I'm going to start digging into the blue bug this week to take off anything that I can use on the '65 Bug I just acquired as it is in better shape and has a clean title.  I already have a list of items I plan to keep from it before selling off what is left. It wouldn't hurt to have an extra usable transmission laying around or even using as a core to be rebuilt.

I just need to know if someone can tow it away with a tow bar from the front without the transmission in it. Or will the rear wheels be all over the place and will require it to be trailer-ed away  :dontknow:

How much will be left of the bug when you are ready to sell it?  are you selling the seats?  how good is the nose?

Depends on what someone is willing to give me for it. I mainly planned on keeping the bumpers, the interior, the headlights, and the turn signals. Oh, I planned on pulling the pop out windows and the rear window. Other then that it would be intact minus a running engine. If I was going to take a couple hundred I may pull out speedo, gas gauge, and not include the wheels.

It does need some rust repair in the usual spots but nothing bad.

Also has a branded title. It happened in California. It now has an Oregon title. The pan and body vin # match. I think it took some damage to the front at some point which is why the title is now branded. But it didn't look like it was bad and someone really took the time to straighten it all out without cutting or replacing anything. They did a damn good job. I will post a pic tomorrow.
