I was planning on attending this cruise this weekend. But I was browsing their forum about the cruise and noticed "Again this will be open to all air cooled VW's." Does that mean I should plan on not coming as I have a water cooler? I have put in an app to join their forums. Waiting to get added so I can post the same question there.

I was looking forward to attending this... But I also just found out that my community is having their community wide garage sale this weekend. I thought it was the weekend after. So I have been torn between the two as to which I was gonna do. I was hoping to score some good deals on fishing and camping gear. But the cruise would be fun too. So I am ok with not being able to go to the cruise even though I think I would rather go on it :D

More info on cruise if you are curious is found here: http://www.bugswest.com/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=522&start=10

It should be in the Hillsboro Argus sometime this week. You can look up my address in the members contact to get an idea where we are located. We are 4 miles south of Hillsboro between Hillsboro and Scholls. I will make sure my contact info is current after posting this.

Does not look like I can come in my WC! But anyone with a AC can head on up to cruise still. Should be lots of fun and if you don't have anything to do that day anyways... Well now you do! I will probably wander around to the garage sales... And then cruise up to St Helens myself and end up passing them all anyways :D

You can always tag along on the kite festival cruise with the mini club.
They don't care what you drive, water or air, we might be rolling in the mazda again this year.
It seems to have been bumped off the calendar, but...

the mini club invited us along on a
cruise to Longbeach, WA for the kite festival  :2up:
Saturday Aug 21st

I just noticed that the link in the calender to the Castle Rock Park & Ride is for Castle Rock, CO and not Castle Rock, WA.
Therefore, I recommend you map it yourself(for non-GPS users like me) if your not familiar with the area.

My photo essay of the cruise. Thanks to Brian for putting this together and thanks to Justin, Dean and Dana, & Duane for participating.  All-in-all this was a great cruise and a good time. Definitely will put your ride to the test  :2up:

Actually pulled over on the side of the freeway on the way home to help a fellow dubber who broke down by Kalama. With the lending of a few tools, got his Super started and off the freeway to the nearest gas station. He had wanted to hitch a ride into Portland in route to Woodburn, but he wasn't really the kind of guy you want riding in your car with your kids.  :rules: Even had a female state trooper stop to comment on "all the Bugs on the side of the road"

It really was a great time driving up to MSH yesterday.  A couple items of note since this was officially the furthest I've driven the '66 since the switch to EDIS.  My gas mileage from Portland to Castle Rock (68 miles) was about 17 MPG - mileage from Castle Rock up to MSH and down to Kalama (128 miles) was around 33 MPG.  I did manage to coast for about 8 miles on the way down (motor off - just gravity).

The guy with the Super has got a motor pull ahead of him.  At a minimum he blew out his rear main - I think he cracked a head/cylinder as I saw a big blast of oil come out one side of the engine once we got it started again and headed to the gas station.  As for the ride to Portland - my words to him were "You have got to realize that my wife will kill me if she found out I gave a stranger a ride with the kids in the car." at which time I put it in gear and headed down the road.

Here's my pics:

Well, considering that the invite was for all ACVW owners basically from the Seattle to Portland metro areas then no, I don't think 5 cars was a big turnout. But compared to how little dubbers in this area are actively supporting such events, then yes, I would say it was a big turnout.
