The current plan is to fix the wiring in Jerry's Notch on Saturday March 31st.

I may be putting an engine into my car that day as well.

Regardless, there will be some fun VW repair activities going that day.

If you are interested in stopping by and getting dirty/greasey/etc let me know and I'll post the logistics.

An update on the plan for Saturday.......

I will still be helping Jerry with the wiring problem on his Notch.

The engine is already in my 66.  So my focus will probably be on fixing the brakes and wiring.... maybe a valve adjustment too.

In summary, the following activities could be happening on Saturday:

Fixing the rat's nest of a wiring job in a Notch
Bleed and adjust brakes
Finish wiring job in Duane's 66
Adjust valves, adjust timing, and if I can figure it out.. adjust a PICT34

Do you have an air compressor?  I know a guy that needs his rear brakes worked on and could drag him over as well.  (Big air compressor for the big nut on the drum) (Don't know what the technical name is for it, but maybe OldScool can throw some more educating our way  )

  • I figured since it wasn't being used I'd try it on

Ummm...Those nuts are called the big nuts that hold on the brake drums. :-)  And actually since I prefer to drive cars that can hurt you with the amount of speed they can generate in a short amount of time they use disk brakes *cough* Water Cooled *cough cough* and I am somewhat unfamiliar with the concept of drums. :-) "Oh Snap" Love you guys anyway and I'll be there to sling insults. :-)
No really...I do it for a living.

Good to know.  Thanks OC.

I got a question for BugginU2:  Is 12:00 the actual start time for this event?  See you all tomorrow.  Thanks.

That was fun!  Thanks for opening up your "shop" for a few hours.  It was a good opprotunity to get to know a few of our newer club members better.  Great idea.  We should do this sort of stuff more often.

I had a great time this afternoon.

Thank you Mark for the great valve, timing and carb adjustment.

Jerry, I had a great time fixing the wiring on your Notch... hopefully it will keep working for more than five minutes.

It took a water-cooled guy to bring the liquid refreshments... thanks!

I can't wait to do this again!

That's more commonly known as a Castle nut.

I've found that even with an impact gun those nuts wont budge many times. I'd suggest getting a "torquemeister".

Btw hello everyone.

I signed on tuesday & would be charged to join in on another activity like the othed day.  Any chance of another.  I would love to pick some brain on a disk brake conversion for my newly aquired vert.

These "Shop Days" are fun and I wouldn't mind more of them myself.  If anyone would like to host one that would be fine.  Once my race car is done and my garage is a little cleaner I would gladly host another (had one last summer).

...what kind of "vert" GT?

I'm probably a good distance away for anyone to drive to. But on any given weekend if I am not camping, then I am out in the garage working on my MANY projects.

74 Thunder Buggy
Sand Rail
66 Baja Bug
66 VolksRod
74 Mid Travel Manx

Yes, I have too many projects.  I also have a 69 Ghia (That I need to sell), a Tent trailer (That I need to sell) and a 21 Ft Boat that I need to work on as well.

Right now I am in high hear for the Thunder Buggy. Trying to get it ready by memorial day for Sand Lake. The Rail is ready.
