The worst performance mod is whatever you're limited to because you convinced yourself (or others) that anything bigger or faster was too extreme for a street car.

He ran a Carfax report on the car and it came up clean.  It is a crazy series of events that he described to me.  Sucks to be him though... out 4k!

I've never done this. I am a bozo I guess. I suppose I trust people too much.

be careful out there then as I have always done this just to see for myself.

however on my last purchase I could not verify the numbers as the way that they did them in the '50's was to put the plate in the doorjamb.  with whatever they used to put the info on to it, it is no longer very visible especially after the PO painted it....

  • What?
Looks like there is a small window where carfax will not show a car as stolen on the report. I guess that makes carfax a somewhat questionable way to check out a car.

Yeah.  I wouldn't depend on Carfax knowing about a stolen car (unless it was missing for months).

This particular car had changed hands several times in the 10 days or so from when it was stolen and my friend bought it.

Dang I have rarely heard of a car changing hands several times in less than two weeks.

Me neither.  He didn't find out until the cops started putting the pieces together.  The kicker is that none of the previous "owners" managed to put in for a change of title..... or maybe they did try and found out the title was fake and pawned if off to someone else.  Either way it sucks for him.
