Hey all,

Wondering if German Transaxle is reputiable shop? I heard some rumors from some people about the guy's built in 6 speed trannys blowin and then he wasn't honoring the warrenty...anyone heard that? Is that not the truth? Let me know what you guys think...thanks.

We use German Transaxle at work and have never had a problem with them since I have been there, and Ken is usually at the Bug Run. Now I know that if they do your tranny a tag comes on it specifically stating which type of fluid you need to use to maintain the warranty, so I would assume if you use something else and it blows the tranny it would not be covered. I do not know if that is the case in the rumors you heard, Of course Rumors are just rumors. My boss used them for his race car and his 67, I used them for both of my air cooled Trannys and they did my 9a for my GTi and it ran like a raped ape. But as I said that is just my experience, and if you can get a better deal closer to home it might be worth it.

They did the bus tranny in my dad's sandrail, and it has a 2.3L Ford crankin out at least 140hp and we have not had an issue.  and if you seen the way my dad pounds on that thing, you would be impressed.  The only drawback i see is the long distance.  and I have also talked to Ken on the phone about my GTI, and he really knows his stuff, so if there is a rumor that he didn't honor his work, there must be another side to that story that isn't being told.

While I have not personally used them, I have spoken to a few shops when I was going to get the tranny in the '64 rebuilt and they all outsourced to German Transaxle of Bend. I have alos spoken to a few people that run a German Transaxle with great results. But for the price of a rebuild, just buy a new Rancho

thanks guys, thats what I needed to hear...that's what I was going to do Matty, since I am unsure of the condition of the tranny I bought I am going to use it as a core, but wanted to check on the rumors I heard...thanks again guys

I had my trans rebuilt at Import transmission exchange. To be honest I am not sure if he did much more than paint my tranny. My trans was in a sand rail previously, and I wanted more of a freeway flyer. I could hardly get my car up to 45 mph. Not much of a freeway flyer. Probably still good for the sand.

Just saying, be careful. The guy did seem cool, but I have heard things about him since.

I have used both those outfits before.  Import Trans Exchange did a couple of my race car tranny's and one street trans.  All I can say is don't rush him and don't be in a hurry.
I've known Ken at GTA for many years now.  Didn't have that great of luck with the tranny he built for my race car but he honored his work.  He has a nice shop in Bend and a pretty knowledgable crew.  I was impressed with the cleanliness of thier shop.  They do take pride in thier work.

coolblue, what size tire is on the back of your car?  If it is the rig pictured in your avatar I would say them are some pretty small tires.  Tiny tires wreak havoc on a gear ratio but with a true FF you should have been able to do at least 55.

thanks, mark. yea i am in no rush as i am sure you have seen what stage my fasty is in...so who do you think is the better route to go, i know nothing about transmissions, so, if i went to one or the other i wouldn't really know what to say or anything...
