I hate HOA's. i turned down two home purchases years ago when we were house shopping because of them. City ordinance is a pain in the ass too. City of OC has similar rules...I cannot have any "vehicle that is inoperable or otherwise not capable of moving under its own power" on the street or in my driveway for more than 24 hours, and I am not allowed to have any vehicles on MY PROPERTY that is not currently registered or does not have insurance for more than 30 days. Doesn't even matter if it is behind my privacy fence, ON MY PROPERTY!!!. I have gotten several letters from Code enforcement about my stuff. In fact I just got another one for Helga, because it doesn't have current tags. Plus I have assholes for neighbors that can't mind their own effin business!!!

The Cedar Hills Inoperable Vehicle Club! That would be great! If we tell them we're a classic car club they won't suspect a thing. I like the idea.
Maybe we can show up with tow straps, a car dolly or two, and some tow bars? Maybe we can get a tow truck to drag a car through on the hook? Now that would be funny!
Now - back on topic. I adjusted the timing and linkage again last night. The earliest I will be able to drive it again is Saturday afternoon...... we shall see!

My neighbors probably wish we had an HOA. :(

I was able to drive it around the block again yesterday afternoon - short trip down the street to Matty's for technical advice. :)
A little bit of adjustment is still needed to get carbs balanced out and not running so rich. Timing looks good.

Well.... what do ya know - it actually worked.
The crazy idea that Peter planted in my head finally gave a spark of life today. My first test run of EDIS (electronic distributor-less ignition system) ran the motor (my backup motor) for about 2 seconds before I quickly shut it down due to an oil leak.
The oil leak is now fixed and once the kiddo wakes up from naptime I am going to fuel it up a bit more and try to get it on video. It's gonna be hella loud since there isn't an exhaust on it, but all I want to hear is it idle for about 10 seconds.

my evil plan to overtake your thought processes has finally worked!
way to go the man that is awesome. perhaps if'n i hadn't lost my job i would be a little further along with my own setup.
so is it just running on the "limp" mode in the EDIS? have you got the mega junk yet and soldered it all up?
enquireing minds want to know...

I ran it again this afternoon for a little less than 10 seconds. It is running in EDIS limp home mode. Phase one complete.
Now I need to buy the megajolt kit and solder it up, figure out where I'm going to hide all this stuff, and set my netbook up for the software to program all this.

So here are some pics...
The trigger wheel and VR sensor. The mounting bracket is a prototype - I am going to build a better mount later.
Details
This shows how close the VR sensor needs to be to the teeth
Details
That's the coil pack and EDIS module hiding back there.
Details
Another view of the trigger wheel, VR sensor, mounting bracket and not much more.... no distributor or fuel pump anymore! :)

if you have the room you should hide the coil pack behind the engine, just make sure you can remove it without having to remove the engine first...
no distributor
no coil
dual karbs
---------------- =
clean engine compartment
now you need the scat linkage to get rid of the unsightly stock k-dud linkage for the full effect

If you think this is impressive you should see his engineering marvels utilizing duct tape...

Yeah Peter - I think I may have enough room behind the fan shroud for the coil pack - I may need to move a couple other things to do that though.
I do have the Scat linkage.
Jerry hooked me up with a electric fuel pump yesterday. When I'm done the only think you should see it the sensor and bracket.
Mr. B - my toolkit consists of a 10mm, 13mm, 15mm, 17mm, 19mm, Spark Plug socket, short and long standard/philips screwdrivers, and DUCT TAPE. ;D
