Hey Everyone -
There are going to be some slight changes to the website that I will outline here so you are not completely shocked.
Currently when you go to "
www.rosecityvolksters.com" you are directed to a website that runs "Wordpress". Once on the Wordpress site, you typically click the "forum" button to go the the forum - or perhaps you look at the pretty pictures on the site first and then click the forum button. Once you've clicked the forum button, the actual forum (which is in fact a completely different website) is loaded into something called an "IFRAME". (I know - too technical - stick with me on this). The forum is actually embedded into a page on the "Wordpress" site. This is going to change.
We are going to dump the "Wordpress" portion of the website in favor of a 100% SMF (Simple Machines Forum) solution. Why are we going to do this? Good question and I'm glad you asked....
1. There are some web browsers that have difficulty handling IFRAMES and the javascript required to keep the users from having two scrollbars doesn't always work.
2. Our current SMF version is two major security revisions out-of-date.
3. The current installation is logging TONS of errors (trust me on this).
4. It sets us up to migrate to the final version of the software.
5. It provides the opportunity to add some new functionality that we had under the old website.
So, how is this going to make my life easier? Another good question....
1. All of the existing posts/PMs/users/permissions will be migrated.
2. Articles (front page stories) will be easier to maintain and users will have the chance to comment on them.
3. Better access to the Flickr albums.
4. Introducing.... member galleries!
5. No new forum software to learn.
My plan is to migrate the website prior by Sunday. The actual migration will probably take less than an hour, but could be as long as 4 hours. The current forum will be placed in maintenance mode during the migration. I'll try to keep the website downtime to a minimum and if the migration goes bad I will put the existing website back up.
PM me if you have any questions or concerns.
