4th Annual Beach Cruise

What a great day at the beach!  The morning was looking pretty miserable, with clouds and lots of rain, but by the time everyone got to the beach, beautiful! The wind was perfect for flying kites, the sun was shining and the beach entrance was smooth enough for everyone to make it onto the beach.   ;D

The turn out was the best yet with about 14 VW’s and 6 chase cars.  Everyone brought a ton of food to share and the club provided burgers and hotdogs to all.  In all I think we had upwards of fifty people.   :o

To liven the festivities we played a game called bolo ball, where you toss bolos (rope with weighted ball at each end) at a stand with three rungs (each rung a different score.)  We played it elimination tournament style, starting with 16 teams of two and whittled it down to just one team.  The bolo ball championship had a surprise twist at the end; the last team standing had to play each other to determine a single winner.  It was Glenn (Smug) against Todd (Oldscool) at the end.  The “2009 RCV Bolo Ball Champ!” trophy went to Glenn (insert applause here.)

As always we gathered lots of attention to our dubsessive group.  Some of the comments offered by passers by were, “Where’d you find so many of those?” and of course the ever popular “I used to have one of those back when….”   ;D

This was a great opportunity to get out into the public eye and remind folks how much fun VW’s are.  Of course the bonus of going to the beach for a bbq on a gorgeous September day was kinda nice too!  I look forward to going again next year.  :D

the nice thing about standards is, there so many to choose from.

We missed a few of you for the group shot but from looking through all the photos people have taken I think you can see everyone's car :)

We had a few line up before the group departed. This made for a great sunset!

here's a link to my pictures.  WAY too many to post here.  they turned out pretty great.  this was a super event.  could not have picked a better day.  No break-downs, beautiful weather, great company, great activities, all out perfect day!  Everyone that followed us (my family) totally enjoyed themselves and commented on the fact that we have quite the club.

We even got noticed by the Gearhart Police!!!  come to find out that officer has 4 aircooled's himself.  He got a business card... :) :)

  • Time to make the doughnuts....
The worst performance mod is whatever you're limited to because you convinced yourself (or others) that anything bigger or faster was too extreme for a street car.
