There are several locations to dine at the Helvatia Tavern.  If the resturant will accomodate the entire group we will look to dine there.  If it is sunny the outside patio may be perfered although it is technically part of the bar.

Please post a reply if you are planning to attend so that we can provide an estimated count to winerys.  Thank you.  Drive safe.

I would love to go, but being father's day and all, I will have my daughter all day (wife works), and would imagine that wineries and a tavern are not necessarily kid friendly, otherwise I would bring her along.  Too bad.  Have Fun!!

I was on my way to meet you guys at Helvatia Tavern, as I get down the street from where I live it my car started to run funny.
At that momoment I remember it has been more than a year since I changed my oil and plugs (I know bad monkey)
So I'll be doing that before I take it anywhere.

That was sorta fun....

I promised Owen a ride in the Bug today.  We had other obligations in the morning/lunchtime, but decided to head out towards Helvatia around 1:30 or so.

We called Mark as we made our way up Cornell towards Skyline.  They were near Germantown Rd/185th already, so we ended up about 15 to 20 minutes behind them.

The drive was really nice - we had a chance to open it up a little (in 3rd) and zip around the corners a bit.  The brakes held up good and the motor performed well.  The only thing I didn't enjoy much was the road to the winery - sorry - it was a bit rough for my tastes.

Owen and I headed back home after the stop at the tavern - it was full anyway and we needed to run some errands.  I'm really liking the new paving on HWY 26 - it is about the only stretch of road that allows me the opportunity to hear all of the car noises!  :)

so we were all packed up and in the car with nowhere to go, so what do we do?  we went to home depot and the red robin for our own dinner.

Dangit.

The wine cruise was fun.  Hip Chicks were very thorough hooking us up with 8 or so wines to taste (lost count after 5).  When we headed out to the next location my Blackberry freaked out and I did not have my GPS directions.  Had to do it the old fashioned way with written directions.  That sucked (well, I sucked).  We soon found out that stop #2 wasn't even open.  They forgot to mention that to us over the phone.  On the way to stop #3, Helvatia Winery,  I took everyone on a couple of brief side trips (the St. Johns Bridge is under rated and deserves our attention) but we made it to Helvatia safely (no thanks to an incredibly rough gravel road).  Unfortunately they were having a bit of a event and were not able to devote much attention to us.  Beautiful location up in the hills North of Hillsboro though.  We headed back down the hill to Helvatia Tavern and determined the wait was too much for our large group so we headed over to Rock Creek Tavern and got right in.  Good friends, good conversation and good food.

Thanks to all those that showed up and made the journey from SE Portland to North Hillsboro.
